let's dance Chapalango

contemporary dance photography

Art Galerie, Siegen 23.2. – 7.4.2007  (see German text below)

It’s not in a far-away land, it’s not the name of an exotic city. However, it does have something to do with a white sheet of paper. Google, Altavista, Yahoo and etc. don’t know anything about this place that sounds so promising.

We are familiar with the widest range of dances by aborigines, from dance contests and from folk festivals. In the range of dances of joy to dances of death, there are ecstatic, passionate and erotic dances. They are a fact in any culture, on every continent, in every country. What they all have in common are the dedication to music, rhythm and movement to music.

The artist and the photographer captures these movements, their moods, pins them all down on a white sheet of paper and creates images - pictures full of their own excitement, presence and strength. The one photographer dances with his camera, the other is a genius at Photoshop. These images are not documentary but creations, as the title of the exhibition suggests.

Up to March 7, 2007, the Let’s Dance Chapalanga Exhibition is showing images by photographers Marco Ambrosi, Verona/Italy; Suzanne Banning, Houston/Texas; Françoise and Daniel Cartier, Biel-Bienne/Switzerland; Diane Ducruet, Paris/France; Adriana Groisman, New York/USA; Lorena Guillen Vaschetti, Buenos Aires/Argentina and New York/USA; Charise Isis, Woodstock/New York; Morton Nilsson, Copenhagen/Denmark; and Pavel Odvody, Damstadt/Germany.
