Marqués de Cubas (1826- 1898)

Francisco de Cubas y González-Montes was a prominent Spanish architect and also politician of the nineteenth century. Known as the Marquis de Cubas by his noble title.

He was member of the Academy of San Fernando and combined his architectural work with his political career that carried him to be deputy in 1893 of Senator Avila and  between 1896 and 1898 mayor of Madrid.

He is one of the most notable architects in nineteenth century Madrid. Among his designs are the college of Jesuits Chamartín, the University of Deusto in Bilbao and the National Museum of Anthropology. But his most known building is the Almudena Cathedral in Madrid.
