Leo von Klenze (1784 - 1864)

Von Klenze was born in Schladen in 1784. He was a German architect, painter and writer. And was one of the representatives of neo-classicist style in Germany. Von Klenze got his architectural education in Berlin and Paris. He moved to Bavaria and in 1816 began working for Ludwig I. He built many neoclassical buildings in Hellenistic style in Munich. Königsplatz is one of the most known. Because of Ludwig I's son Otto, who was the first king of independent Greece von Klenze became the possibility to visit Athens and make plans of city reconstruction in the style of Ancient Greece. Von Klenze was a art- collector and was the owner of important contemporary German painters. Von Klenze died in 1864 and is buried at “Suedfriedhof” cemetery in Munich.
