The old China no longer exists, the Cultural Revolution is over and what is left are the ruins. Is it this what Meng Jin is telling us about? The works easily feign a reality, which has, however, been reduced and composed in Photoshop®. Deserted, floodlit rooms do not allow any retrospections on China’s past. The light and the reflections are the abstracted hope for the future, the obviously photographed rooms metaphors of what once was.
