Tango Metropolis in Münster at Westlotto

In Münster, Thomas Kellner opened his exhibition Tango Metropolis at WestLotto in Münster. The exhibition was introduced by the first chairwoman of the Friedrich Hundt Society for the Promotion of Artistic Photography in Münster and Angelika Osthues invited us to join an artist talk with Thomas Kellner. A special highlight of the exhibition is the new work Mont. St. Michel, which can be seen in Münster for the very first time. Parallel to the promotion of the North Rhine-Westphalian cultural landscape with video contributions, in which Thomas Kellner also participated, the Westdeutsche Lotterie GmbH & Co. OHG promotes Thomas Kellner with an exhibition and a new catalog. This third catalog on Tango Metropolis contains a readable art-scientific text by Prof. Dr. Rolf Sachsse, who sees Kellner as a modern mannerist. The exhibition in Münster runs until November 26, 2021.

"Tango Metropolis" shows Kellner's characteristic photographic works as contact sheets with architectural motifs from all over the world, such as the Tokyo Tower, the Golden Gate Bridge or even the Brandenburg Gate.
When viewing the works at length, one realizes that the images were shot cohesively and deliberately in order to be able to put them together in a certain way. It becomes clear that there is a well thought out system behind it. The black, horizontally running stripes with codes and sequential numbers, as well as thinner, vertically applied, seemingly continuous divisions, clearly show that we are dealing here with film material and contact prints. The number of individual shots in a work can be as many as 1296. This artistic method, which Kellner invented and which has become his trademark, is called the "Visual Analytical Synthesis".
