Pierre de Montereau (ca 1200 – 1266)
Montereau was born about 1200 and was an French architect.
After a training period in Champagne, he worked at the Basilica of Saint-Denis around 1231. Noted for his talent, he was called to 1239 by the Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Pres in Paris.
From 1246 to 1248, he built his masterpiece, Sainte-Chapelle, at the request of Louis IX. Located on the Ile de la Cite, it represents a model of Gothic art.
Around 1250, he was participated in the works for Notre-Dame. He also attributed the change to 1260 arm of the transept of Notre-Dame de Paris.
He died in 1266 in Paris.
