Nimes, Pont du Gard
The Pont du Gard is an aqueduct in the south of France constructed by the Roman Empire, and located in Vers-Pont-du-Gard near Remoulins . The Pont du Gard is built on three levels and has got a total height of 49 metres. The Lower level has got six arches, the middle one eleven arches and the longest upper level 47 arches. On its first level, it carries a road and at the top of the third level, a water conduit. The construction took place in the middle of the first century A.D and was designed to carry the water across the small Gardon river valley.
