Chicago, Navy Pier - Ferris Wheel
At Navy’s Pier in Chicago there are over a half dozen attractions. Open to the public since 1916 and reborn in 1995, Navy Pier offers visitors unique experiences along Chicago's lakefront. All down Navy Pier's walking-distance stretch are myriad options for dining, shopping, and entertainment. Navy Pier's most visible attraction, the 150 foot-high Ferris wheel is open year-round.
Modelled after the very first Ferris wheel ever, which was built for Chicago's 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition by George Washington Gale Ferris, Jr., the Navy Pier Ferris wheel provides unparalleled views of the Chicago skyline and lakefront. The Pier's Ferris wheel has 40 gondolas, each seating up to 6 passengers. In the evening, the Ferris wheel's 40 spokes, spanning a diameter of 140 feet, are illuminated by thousands of sparkling lights.
