Thomas Kelner's presence as expert in Birmingham
After the portfolio viewings in Houston, Texas, Berlin and Lodz, Thomas Kellner had actually decided not to offer any more consultations for up-and-coming photographers this year. But as is so often the case, things turn out differently and go faster than one might think. The phone rings one evening: "Thomas can you do me a favor? Can you attend the portfolio viewing in Birmingham for me and my gallery next weekend?"
The caller, Thomas Poller, with galleries in Frankfurt and New York, has known Thomas Kellner for a long time, from many meetings in Germany, at art fairs and portfolio viewings. Both appreciate each other's judgment and view of the art market and regularly exchange arguments, one from the perspective of a gallerist, the other from the perspective of an artist.
So, for the sixth time, Thomas Kellner spent a weekend at rhubrab-rhubarb, probably the largest portfolio meeting in Europe, a weekend with up-and-coming photo artists. In 2002, he was represented at the festival for the first time as a photographer with his exhibition "Monuments". This time he advised photographers on behalf of Galerie Thomas Poller New York and, of course, for the annual photographers:network project in the Friedrichstraße studios.
