Thomas Kellner curates international group exhibition in Siegen
A photography prize comes to Siegen.
In early 2009, Thomas Kellner has once again invited colleagues and friends from all over the world to apply for his summer exhibition in the Friedrichstraße studios. They are all mostly young female photographers whom Kellner has met at festivals, art fairs and in his galleries. Some of them have are now long-time friendships. The network is growing and so this year Thomas Kellner has extended the circle of guests. Applications have been received from 20 countries this year, including Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, Denmark, Spain, France, Great Britain, Israel, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, Thailand, the USA and Uruguay.
This year, the photo magazine from Hamburg will award a prize to one of the participating photographers. The chosen photographer will receive a portfolio in the July issue and 450 euros in prize money by PROFIFOTO magazine, which will once more publish a representative selection of the exhibited works in said issue.
This year, 105 photographers with more than three hundred works applied to take part. The aim of the project is to build a network among colleagues and to promote each other. An expert jury consisting of two journalists (Thomas Gerwers, PROFIFOTO and Manfred Zollner, fotomagazin), a gallerist (Beate Cegielska, Galleri Image, Aarhus, Denmark) and an art historian (Johan Sjöström, Göteborgs Konstmuseum, Sweden) will select the works to be exhibited along with Thomas Kellner. The final selection of 26 photographers will be on display from June 27 to July 5.
