Düsseldorf. On Tuesday evening May 31, the Chamber of Architects of North Rhine-Westphalia in Düsseldorf opened the exhibition half-timbered houses of the Siegen industrial area today by Thomas Kellner. The numerous guests, among them the district president from Arnsberg Hans-Josef Vogel, were welcomed by Ernst Uhing, president of the Chamber of Architects followed by a scientific lecture by Maximilian Mißelbeck from the Scholl Foundation in Cologne and a panel discussion between the chief executive of the Chamber of Architects Markus Lehrmann, the fine art photographer Thomas Kellner and architect Michael Arns from Freudenberg. The exhibition shows Kellner's new interpretations of those half-timbered houses from Eiserfeld that Bernd and Hilla Becher photographed in the 1950s to 1970s, alongside some shots of how the houses look today. The Bechers' photographs appear three times in the exhibition. First, in a very nice film by Lokalzeit Südwestfalen with extensive archival footage taken in 2021, a comparative film slide show that juxtaposes images from the Bechers' book with Kellner's work, and the book by Bernd and Hilla Becher in multiple versions, in which the public can approach the Bechers' work themselves. A particularly attractive part of the exhibition are architectural models by students of the Department of Architecture of the University of Siegen, created in the winter semester 10/11 at the Department of Building History & Preservation of Historic Monuments, supervised by Prof. Dr. Dr. Karl Kiem.  The exhibition is accompanied by the second extended edition of the catalog of the same name with a contribution by Michael Arns, architect and former vice president of the Chamber of Architects of North Rhine-Westphalia, and a foreword by the current president of the Chamber of Architects Ernst Uhing. The exhibition can be seen in Düsseldorf until September 19.
