Half-timbered houses in Cologne
Cologne. On Saturday evening, the in focus gallery of Burkhard and Anja Arnold opened the exhibition Thomas Kellner, half-timbered houses of the Siegen industrial area today in Cologne. The series about those half-timbered houses that Bernhard and Hilla Becher photographed from the 1950s to the 1970s in the Siegerland, shows the houses in their now mostly structurally altered situation. Thomas Kellner approaches and distances himself from the Bechers in equal measure, according to opening speaker Maximilian Mißelbeck of the Scholl Foundation. On the one hand, the typology remains recognizable, but the photographic modernist approach of the Bechers gives way to a contemporary modern image in Kellner's work. The exhibition is on view in Cologne through June 2.
