Walter Dohmen, Langerwehe, Germany

Walter Dohmen was born in 1941 in Langerwehe (Germany) and is an artist, art professor and writer who lives and works in his hometown studio.

Walter Dohmen started his early career in Germany studying painting at the Schools of Arts and Crafts in Cologne and Aachen, where he became a graduate designer. From 1969 to 1982 he worked as art teacher at several schools in Dueren. From 1982 to 2000 Dohmen gave lectures in graphic prints at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences.

In the year 1972 Dohmen was awarded a scholarship at the Frans Masereel Rijkscentrum for Graphics in Kasterlee (Belgium), where he still spends time for work stays and lectures. In 1980 he followed up on an invitation of the Stony Brook University in Long Island (New York, USA) to give lectures in lithography. In 1985 he visited the print factory in Wolfsburg (Germany). From 1987 to 1988 Dohmen worked as a teacher at the International Summer School in Graphics in Calella/Barcelona (Spain), where he returned to in 1990 for another one year work stay. In 1988 he received the Nordlimburgse Industrieprijs in graphics in Belgium. Then, in 1989, Walter Dohmen was teacher at the Summer School in Bremerhaven (Germany). In 1993 he had a guest studio at the Villa Romana in Florence, Italy. In the same year Dohmen ran a workshop in artistic gravure at the studio "Jean Arp" in Locarno (Switzerland), where he also assumed control of a workshop in hand papermaking and artistic gravure in 1994. In the following years Dohmen planned and realized a lot of workshops and exhibitons in Germany as well as abroad.

At the moment Dohmen plans two exhibitions for his 70th anniversary in 2011 at the Diocesan Museum in Eichstaett and the Arts Centre in Bad Rehberg (Germany).
