September 19 - 26, 2018
Pingyao International Photography Festival, Pingyao, Shanxi, Peoples Republic of China
Götz Diergarten is a German photographer, born 1972 in Mannheim. The conceptual connection of typology and colour is reoccurring characteristic of his work. His focus lies on architectural motives. Diergarten studied 1993-1998 at the Academy of Fine Arts Düsseldorf, under Bernd Becher und continued his education at the University of Design in Zürich until 2000. In 1999 he won the first prize for “Junge Kunst der Künstlergilde” and in 2010 “Pfalzpreis für Bildende Kunst”. In addition, he received several scholarships, including “Hasselbad Stipendium” in 2003 and “Aufenthalt im Künstlerhaus Schloss Balmoral” in 2005. His work is regularly exhibited in the Art Basel, Art Cologne or the Armory Show in New York.
Götz Diergarten´s art works focus around the scenic two-dimensional effect of, often deserted, industrial culture. He puts emphasis on their simple architectural details and turns them into independent images of colour field and tone within a totally different context. Diergarten thinks his duty as artist is to “Break with clichés, beware an unbiased perspective and spot the exceptional in daily life in order to sharpen the perception and sensitize”. In his latest project “Kunst & Kohle”, Diergarten photographically explores the theme of mining settlements in Duisburg. As a consequence of the cancellation of industrial subsidies, the last two remaining mine shafts are closed towards the end of 2018. His project will be exhibited in RuhrKunstMuseen from 03.05. – 16.09.2018.
