The Siegerland Artists' Working Group on its way to China 29.9.2006 TK Art in a suitcase, a group of travelers from Siegen set off for China. Not to learn to be afraid, but to exhibit art from the Siegerland region in a renowned location in Beijing and Deyang. About a year ago, the German-Chinese Friendship Society approached the Siegen artists with the question of whether they would like to exhibit in the twin town of the Siegen-Wittgenstein district, Deyang in the People's Republic of China. The ASK is developing into the most important contact for art and artists in Siegen- Wittgenstein. In the past, they have already exhibited in other twin towns of the city of Siegen. On Friday, a group of 12 people set off with the Siegen artists Sigrid Mertin, Aki Benemann, Petra Oberhäuser, Helga Seekamp and Thomas Kellner under the leadership of Isolde Gomberg, Chairwoman of the German-Chinese Friendship Society in Siegen.
The friendship society had already organized an exhibition with Siegen artists in Deyang 14 years ago. Back then, Jochen Dietrich and Thomas Kellner Namhee Völkel-Song were already there, just like today. They have been. This year, however, things will be different. A total of 15 artists from the consortium will be exhibiting at the Yan Huan Museum and the Confucius Temple in the twin city of Deyang. Isolde Gomberg has been involved in the German-Chinese Friendship Society for two years and has organized several trips to China with various participants, as well as events and exhibitions in Siegen. Many may be familiar with the annual presentations of Chinese artists in the Haus Seel Municipal Gallery. This year's presentation was only last August. The first planning meeting at Gomberg's home gave rise to the question of how to organize and finance this ambitious undertaking. In particular, the district administration under District Administrator Paul Breuer and cultural organizer Wolfgang Suttner were very open to the idea of reviving the relationship with the distant twin town and not only supported the production of a representative catalog, but also started their own travel plans.
On October 4, a delegation from the district authority under Paul Breuer, accompanied by the Siegen media, will set off to visit the exhibition of the Siegen artists in Beijing and to help open it in Deyang.
