Gilbert de Clare (1243–1295)
Gilbert de Clare, also known as Gilbert the Red, was a member of a Welsh noble family. He built castles to protect and secure the area of lowland South Wales. They are examples of the late 13th century military architecture. His masterpiece was Caerphilly Castle. He built a few other castles such as Castle Coch.
