Carl Gandolf Kayser (1837-1895)
Carl Gandolf Kayser was born February 12, 1837 in Vienna and he died September 2 in 1895. He was an Austrian architect and worked for the Emperor Maximilian of Mexico.
He was member of the sculpture class at the Academy of Fine Arts of Vienna and Munich. Later he specialized in Mediaeval and Gothic revival architecture. In 1864 the Emperor Maximilian of Mexico announced him for court architect. He planned the remodelling of the Palacio Nacional in Mexico City and the Chapultepec Castle.
After the Mexican Empire collapsed in 1867 he returned to Austria. He restored several medieval buildings for example the castle of Kreuzenstein, Hardegg or Liechtenstein Castle.
