Museum Bad Hersfeld: Black and white photography in West Germany after 1945, Schuppmann Collection. June 7 - September 8, 2024
On June 8, 2024, the exhibition of the collection of Michael and Ingrid Schupmann opened at the Museum of the City of Bad Hersfeld. The museum in the Upper Hessian town of Bad Hersfeld is a well-known cultural venue in the region, built in an old monastery building. The institution is known for its various exhibitions featuring both local and international artists. The museum's architecture combines modernity and tradition, creating a perfect environment for artistic works.
The collection is presented in the Kapitlsaal. The focus is on black and white photographs taken after 1945. A comprehensive spectrum from reportage photography to conceptual approaches is exhibited.
Michael Schupmann was born in Berlin in 1965. Together with his wife, Schupmann has collected black and white photographs from 1945-2000. The exhibitions represent artists such as Peter Keetman, Bernd, Hilla Becher and Thomas Kellner. Thomas Kellner is represented with four works, including: Dom Ostseite, Cologne, 2001.
Kellner is known for his deconstructed architecture, which can be seen in the four works.
